It has been almost two months since the release of Destiny 2’s Black Armory DLC but finally the day that many fans have been waiting for has arrived. The Last Word quest is now active in the game and players are free to chase the exotic hand cannon at their own leisure.
But, for those who want to get their hands on the fast-firing Tex Mechanica exotic as soon as possible, it’s best to start working on the quest now. As is typical, Bungie has put a considerable amount of effort between Destiny 2 players and The Last Word.
Unlike past Destiny 2 quests, The Last Word quest is available for pickup directly from The Drifter. No need to wait on an RNG drop from Vex or anything like that.
This step requires players to kill Hive in three different ways: The player needs hive kills with solar damage, 75 kills of Hive, and kills on 3 Hive bosses.
Now the Gambit vendor will give players the next steps in the quest.
This is likely to be the first roadblock for players on the way to The Last Word. Players will need to accrue Crucible kills while avoiding deaths. Every kill or assisted kill reportedly gives 2% towards the step completion while a death takes away 1%.
Head to Titan and complete the story mission. It’s 500 Power Level and the key mechanic is to kill the Wizards before you can get to the boss. Repeat that process until the boss is dead.
Yes, go back to The Drifter.
This step requires a lot of things. First, players need to earn 50 tokens by killing Hive via precision kills. A precision kill does not guarantee a token, though, so it will likely take more than 50 kills.
Next, complete 3 Witches’ Ritual Public Events on Heroic. This step is time-consuming because there aren’t a lot of destinations with this type of Public Event and they don’t pop up very often. The Rig zone on Titan is likely the best bet because Escalation Protocol can interrupt Public Events on Mars.
Players also need to get 15 Wanted Escapee kills in Lost Sectors. Since you will be waiting on the Witches Ritual in The Rig, we recommend doing the Cargo Bay 3 Lost Sector. Kill the Ogre, run out of the Lost Sector, run back in, and kill the Ogre again.
Finally, you need 25 Blood for Blood or Best Served Cold medals. These require either a kill on an enemy that recently killed a teammate or a kill on an enemy that recently killed you.
Yep. Him again.
Make your way through this mission defeating enemies. Take note that the Attrition modifier is active so the only way to replenish your health is by picking up the little wells of light.
Eventually, there will be sections of the mission where the player needs to stand on a plate and enemies will spawn in front of them. After the plate charges, players can grab a “virtual Last Word.” Then wait for each enemy to draw its weapon (it might look familiar), shoot their gun, and move on. The boss works the same way.
Upon completion of the mission, players will now have The Last Word in their inventory. Return to The Drifter to get some lore and perhaps clues towards Thorn, which is likely the next exotic weapon quest on the way.
